Brooke Kanas

About

Brooke Kanas’ art captures the essence of her time spent outdoors as viewed through the lens of a naturalist. Brooke works in acrylic and watercolor, where the fluid-like mediums guide her compositions. Her work captures the relationship between literal imagery, negative space, and color. Brooke has developed a modern yet organic collage-like style. In addition to water-based mediums, she works in graphite pencil, colored pencil, and digital painting. Brooke Kanas attended Northern Illinois University, where she received a BFA in Drawing.

Early on, Brooke grew up in rural Northern Illinois surrounded by the beauty of restored prairies and rolling farmlands, all of which resonate in her artwork. Her passion for traveling and exploring led her to Western United States, Western Canada, river adventures, and hiking on the Appalachian Trail, always with a sketchbook at hand. Brooke’s time spent outdoors has allowed her to explore the fine details of nature reflected in her art. Brooke Kanas currently resides in Portland, Maine, in search of more inspiration. The rugged coast, raging waves, and dense pine-forest echo in her work as she shows us the beauty of the Northeast, and all of her adventures through the eyes of an artist.

She is available for commissions, collaborations, and exhibition opportunities.
